Rules
Everything you need to know before stepping on the pitch, court, or track.
General Rules
Art. 1. Pre-Match Player Registration
In order to play in the Startup League, you have to be registered as a member of the club. Players not registered in the Club will not be able to play.
Art. 1.1. Attendance
Players and Captains are obliged to commit attendance up until one day before the games.
Please note that filling out these lists is completely obligatory to keep track of players joining weekly. Additionally, we will use this list to track your team, your number and your stats! (make sure no one has the same number in your team!).
Art. 2. Punctuality and Sanctions
Teams must be on the pitch and ready to play at the designated hour. Slots are as follows:
- 18:45 – 19:30
- 19:45 – 20:30
- 20:30 – 21:15
- 21:15 – 22:00
There will be no waiting time nor extra time as the schedule is tight. Please be punctual.
The minimum quantity of players on the pitch is 3. You can decide if you would like to start the game punctually or wait — but no extra time will be added.
Art. 2.1. Game Rescheduling and Cancellations
Game rescheduling is generally not possible in short notice. Rescheduling will be considered only when communicated in advance.
No-shows and short notice cancellations will be considered as a 5-0 loss for the team in question.
Art. 3. Uniform
Art. 3.1. Shoes and Jewelry
Screw-in and studded footwear as well as jewelry (including watches) are strictly forbidden.
Only training shoes, molded soles, or indoor football shoes may be worn.
Referees and League Managers on-site may refuse to allow players to play with inappropriate footwear and/or the wearing of any form of jewelry.
Game Rules
Art. 4. Playing Rules
Standard rules for 11-a-side football apply to 5-a-side also, with a few exceptions noted below.
Art. 4.1. General Rules
- • Playing time is 1×40 minutes. Games start and end at the designated time.
- • Games are in a 5-a-side format (1 goalkeeper + 4 players).
- • Substitutions are unlimited but must be made only behind one's own goal.
Art. 4.2. Fouls
Art. 4.2.1 Free Kicks
All free kicks are indirect!
The goalkeeper is only allowed to pick up the ball with his/her hands if the ball is passed by a teammate with a body part other than the feet.
Sliding tackles are NOT allowed and will be punished with indirect free kicks. Exceptions:
- • The goalkeeper may slide tackle inside the goalkeeper area.
- • Slides by players are only allowed to keep the ball in play when no opponent is near.
No goals can be scored directly from a free kick, goal kick, kick in, corner kick, or kick off.
Art. 4.2.2. Penalty
Fouls inside the box can be awarded as a penalty at the referee's discretion.
The goalkeeper must be on the goal line. Players may only take one step when taking a penalty kick.
Art. 4.2.3. Kick Ins
Kick ins are conceived whenever the ball touches any of the nets on the ceiling or sidelines. Kick-ins must be below knee level.
Corner kicks and goal kicks are conceived whenever the ball is located behind the goal lines.
Art. 5. Yellow and Red Cards
Cards are awarded for fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct at the discretion of the referee.
Art. 5.1. Yellow Cards
Yellow Card = 2 minutes pause for the player, team plays with 4 players. If the team receives a goal before the two minutes are over, then the team can complete the five players.
Art. 5.2. Red Cards
Red Card = the player is sent off for the whole game. During 2 full minutes the sanctioned team plays with one less player. The player will not be able to re-enter the match nor play the next one.
Disciplinary Rules
Art. 6. Disciplinary Rules
These rules should only be taken in extraordinary cases and do not reflect the spirit of the Startup League — whose main values are fair play and having fun!
Art. 6.1. Suspensions and Discipline
- • In case of an egregious foul or abusive language, the player may face a two or more games suspension.
- • If a team is permanently reduced by 2 players, or temporarily reduced by 3 players, the game will end and be awarded 5-0 to the opponents.
- • If a match is aborted, the team at fault receives a 5-0 defeat unless the opposing team already has a greater advantage.
- • Violent conduct on or off the pitch will result in immediate suspension and could result in a ban.
- • Referees must be treated with respect. Teams found guilty of abusing referees will be removed from the league.
- • All decisions made by the management are final. Cameras may be used to clarify situations.
- • These rules are not exhaustive and may be added to or amended at any time.
